Dark Seas is a Californian surf and coastal clothing brand, built for people who live in and out of the water. This is the UK home of the brand, based on the Dorset coast in Poole - we stock the best of the seasonal collections, ship across the UK and Ireland, and know Dark Seas inside out.

Where It Started

Dark Seas was founded in 2009 by Adrian Lopez, who has spent his life on the Southern Californian coast - from San Diego through to Newport Beach and beyond. It was one of two brands Adrian founded the same day: where its sister brand Loser Machine channels his professional skateboarding career and love of motorcycles, Dark Seas is the coast. The idea was simple from the start: clothing for all coastal explorers, fishermen, surfers and the wayward kind who feel the pull of the water. More than fifteen years on, that hasn’t changed - Dark Seas still mixes ocean heritage with graphic-driven design that reads as easily in the surf as it does on the boat or heading out to the bar.

What We Make

The range covers graphic t-shirts, shirts, boardshorts, headwear, sweatshirts and coastal outerwear. The artwork pulls from commercial fishing, surf culture, traditional tattoo flash and old American coastal heritage - with the occasional warship thrown in, a nod to the San Diego naval bases Adrian grew up around. It’s the kind of mix that doesn’t need explaining to anyone who’s spent time near the water. Signature pieces like the Headmaster tee have become fixtures, while collaborations with Grundéns, Jaws and Poler bring genuine cultural overlap, not just a logo swap. Designed in California, made to last, and now here in the UK.
